BladeLaw Logo - Employment

The employment relationship can be a difficult one, but critical to your business. Having an experienced commercial solicitor at your side can make life much easier.

Starting any relationship right can often be decisive in how it ends. If your contracts are not up to scratch, you've missed an opportunity to solve some disputes before they even arise.

Of course, some employees will never be happy. Others will be happy but won't be contributing. Getting rid of them may seem impossible. The law may appear to stand in your way. Used properly though, the law is there to protect you too, not just your employees.

During the employment relationship, avoiding falling foul of the law can be tricky. Understanding equality law, working time regulations, flexible working and a whole plethora of other legislation is a job for a lawyer, not a manager.

Whether you need regular advice and guidance or just a one-off issue resolving, give BladeLaw a call. In most cases you will be offered a low, fixed fee. You will never be charged a penny until your issue has been understood, you have been told what can be done and what it will cost and you are convinced that this will add value to your business.

To give you an idea of likely costs the following are typical elements of a claim for unfair or wrongful dismissal before a tribunal. Typically a claim can take 6-12 months to go right through the tribunal process. Each individual case is different though. Call at no cost to discuss the complexity of your case and get a better idea of costs you are likely to incur going forwards (all subject to VAT at 20%):
  • Initial review (incluidng employment contract and limited correspondence) £400
  • Negotiations (assuming around two hours) £400
  • Issuing tribunal claim £500
  • Reviewing tribunal claim £400
  • Responding to tribunal claim (assuming no previous review) £600
  • Reviewing documents for disclosure (assuming limited correspondence) £300
  • Drafting a witness statement (sometimes two or three are required) £500
  • Attending a one-day tribunal hearing (including preparation) £2,000
As you can see from the above, if BladeLaw does everything, the costs can easily exceed £6,000 (incl. VAT). If you wish, however, BladeLaw can just take care of the parts which you are not comfortable with. Call now to discuss your individual needs.
